MAJOR SUCCESS BECKONS: Krept (left) and Konan with their ‘Best Newcomer’ MOBO Award
UK DUO Krept and Konan have signed a record deal with Virgin EMI/Universal
The My Story hitmakers, who scooped the ‘Best Newcomer’ gong at the 18th annual Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards last week (Oct 19), now look set to further their success, after obtaining the major record deal. They now join the likes of Emeli Sande, Iggy Azalea and Rihanna, who are amongst the plethora of artists on the label’s roster.
Despite the limited promotion of their mixtape Young Kingz, the offering went on to chart within the top 20 of the official UK album charts, thanks to the south London duo utilizing Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to galvanize support.
The savvy self-promotion paid off, earning the pair a huge following and millions of YouTube views.
But despite having their achievements recognised with the ‘Best Newcomer’ MOBO Award, and the subsequent major record deal, the pair insists they don’t want to “get complacent”.
"The love has been overwhelming especially on Twitter and from our family and friends,” Krept said of the support the duo has received since signing the Virgin EMI/Universal deal.
“Having artists’ showing their support and saying congratulations, that’s industry love right there. It is only going to get bigger and better, however we don’t want to get complacent. We just want to keep striving.”
