Latino gang members arrested over racist attacks

ARRESTED: Efran Marquez and Jeffrey Aguilar (L-R)

THREE LATINO gang members have been arrested over a series of racist attacks on African-American family's home in Compton, Los Angeles.

EJeffrey Aguilar, 19, Efren Marquez, 21, and an unidentified juvenile reportedly brought “15 to 20 gang members” to surround the house and tell the family that they could not live in the predominantly Latino neighbourhood, reports The Daily Mail.

During the December 31 incident Marquez was said to have pointed a gun at one of the male member of the family while his teenage accomplice attacked him with a metal pole.

The gang, who are known for committing hate crimes against black people in the area, are also accused of riding past the family’s home "several times a day" to shout racial slurs.

Lt Richard Westin told the Los Angeles Times: "They repeatedly used racial epithets, they use racial hatred graffiti and they tag up the black church a lot."

Compton Councilwoman Yvonne Arceneaux added: "We need to address these issues, cecause if they continue to fester like this then it can spread to the city."
