Lazio fined £32k after fans racially abuse Spurs players

RACIALLY TAUNTED: Lennon

ITALIAN FOOTBALL club Lazio were given a £32,500 fine by Europe’s governing body UEFA for the improper conduct of their fans during a Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur on September 20.

Monkey chants coming from the away support at White Hart Lane were directed at Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend during last month’s 0-0 draw.

Lazio, who received the small fine yesterday (September 20), have three days to appeal.

The news of Lazio’s punishment comes days after Tottenham player Danny Rose was racially taunted with monkey chants by Serbian fans during their European Under-21 Championship play-off on October 16.

Spurs will once again play Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on November 20.
