IMPROVEMENT: Lewis Appiagyei
YOUNG RACER Lewis Appiagyei continues to stay on track for a stellar career. The Formula One aspirant
moved from DK Racing to NR Racing this year and it is paying dividends.
Lewis, 11, made a statement of intent this year by winning the Winter Championship at Buckmore Park, “which was a further improvement on my third place finish in the Summer championship last year,” he said.
Last weekend he attended the Buckmore Park's annual awards dinner for the third year in a row and collected two impressive trophies to add to his ever growing collection. “Seeing my name on the championship shield was particularly satisfying," he admitted.
“Now with my new engine I very much hope to make club history again this year, when hopefully I will become a champion in both the corporate kart and the owner driver category.”
With renewed support from his main sponsors Bridgepoint, Team Appiagyei were able to get a new, special parts engine and the racer moved up to the Honda Cadet class.
He added: “My dad and the new team boss are still working on the set-up of my kart, and I’ve done hours of testing, but it looks like I will be able to keep up with the pace of the others who have been driving in this class for a while longer than myself.
"The best news though was the confirmation that I have made it into the SODI Kart World Finals, the biggest kart competition of it’s kind in the world."
Lewis was the highest-ranking UK driver in his age group for 2014. He said: “It will be an honour to represent my country when competing for the world championship title in Paris this June."
The finals will feature a daytime and night race and will be a televised. Team Appiagyei told The Voice: "We are now inviting national and local businesses to display their brand or logo on Lewis' race suit in return for sponsorship."
