Liverpool legends to come together for London event

FORMER LIVERPOOL F.C. player Howard Gayle will discuss his career alongside John Barnes, and Emile Heskey at an event titled An Audience with Liverpool Legends at the Beck Theatre, in Hayes, Middlesex on Wednesday 4 September.

The event will allow the audience to pose questions to the football stars about their careers and more and is led by promoter Priscilla Mensah.

Mensah first met Gayle over 25 years ago when he was playing for Blackburn Rovers. She had known very little of his story, but after reading his book 61 Minutes In Munich, they spoke for nearly a year about planning an event.

“The book is such a riveting read of how despite losing his beloved mother at such a young age and a spell in prison, he still went on to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Mensah.

Mensah is bringing the stories of Gayle, Barnes and Heskey into the context of the history of the time with the challenges that they faced and overcame.

“I feel a huge sense of pride to be able to bring these pioneers of British football to a wider audience of Liverpool F.C. fans and lovers of football generally, especially now as the club is celebrating winning the European Cup for the sixth time,” Mensah.

“I myself grew up in a time when most of my friends were Liverpool F.C. supporters, as many of the London based clubs were vocally racist and were not particularly welcoming to black and brown fans. I am humbled that I have the opportunity to bring these guys together for what, I am sure, will be a very memorable night.

Of the event, Gayle said: “This should be a lively night, the three of us have some great stories to tell, and we have some good old Liverpool style banter too!”

Barnes commented that football remains his “greatest love” and looks forward to “a great night.

“I am looking forward to sharing the stage with John Barnes MBE and Howard Gayle, who paved the way for players like me,” added Heskey.
All event tickets purchased will be put into a prize draw for a pair of Liverpool home match tickets and Gayle will be signing copies of his book prior to the event.
