GLOWING: Lupita Nyong'o has been announced as Lancome’s new ambassador
OSCAR-WINNING actress Lupita Nyong'o has been named the new face of French cosmetics giant, Lancôme.
The Kenyan star, who shot to fame in Steve McQueen’s harrowing slave drama 12 Years A Slave, is Lancôme's first ever black ambassador.
The deal is the 31-year-old's first major endorsement and she joins Hollywood A-listers Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, and Penelope Cruz as promoters of the brand.
It is believed the company hand-picked the actress and said in a statement: “Her instinctive and sophisticated talent and one of a kind beauty, both delicate and strength-exuding, has taken the world by storm.”
Nyong'o, who was born in Mexico and raised in Kenya was described as “the pride of Africa” by the Kenyan president after her Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress in Hollywood blockbuster 12 Years A Slave.
Lancôme advertisements featuring Nyong'o are reportedly due to start appearing this summer.
