Man arrested for ‘racist Ba comment’

POLICE HAVE arrested a man on suspicion of posting a racially offensive comment on social media website Facebook about Chelsea footballer Demba Ba.

A 39-year-old man from Gateshead was arrested on January 31 on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment that was directed towards the Senegal international.

The man has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

The post was made on a football forum and allegedly included swear words that were directed at Ba. The post has since been removed.

"Police received a complaint about an offensive message posted on Facebook earlier this month,” said a Northumbria Police spokesperson.

"A 39-year-old Gateshead man has been arrested on suspicion of racially-aggravated harassment and has been bailed pending further inquiries."
