KILLED: Kwame Ofosu-Asare

POLICE INVESTIGATING the murder of 17-year-old Kwame Ofosu-Asare have today arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Kwame, a sixth form student from Catford, south London, was stabbed to death in Brixton on Friday night.

It is believed that the teen was with a friend on their way to his friend's relative's house in Brixton when they were chased by two young men and assaulted.

He was en route to a south London hospital when he died in the ambulance.
Kwame's friend was not injured.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as multiple stab wounds.



Streatham MP, Chuka Umunna condemned the recent spate of stabbings in and around his south London constituency on Twitter on Monday.

He wrote: “I am deeply concerned about the spate of stabbings we have had in my constituency and Lambeth this last two weeks.,” he said.

He added: This serious violence is a blight on our community - as ever, we all have to work even harder to stop what is happening on our streets.”

The suspect remains in custody at a south London police station.

In the last few minutes, police have released CCTV images of what they believe is a minicab used by the suspects before and after the murder.

Officers believe the car is a Vauxhall Zafira minicab that the suspects could have picked up in Camberwell.

The minicab then drove the suspects around for approximately 20 minutes prior to the attack taking the suspects to the Myatts Field Estate and Vassal Road area before it parked up on Moorlands Road.

The two suspects left the minicab and made their way in to the Moorlands Estate. They were in the estate for a couple of minutes before they made their way back to the minicab which is then believed to have taken them back to the Camberwell area.

Police are urging the driver of the minicab to come forward and help them with their investigation.
