Michael B Jordan says he saw a therapist after Black Panther

DARK PLACE: Michael B Jordan went to see a therapist after he finished filming Black Panther

MICHAEL B Jordan has revealed that he saw a therapist after a particular role took its toll on his mental health.

Jordan, whose performance as villain Erik Killmonger in Black Panther was a hit with film fans and critics, has opened up about the negative impact immersing himself in the character had on him after he finished working on the film.

Speaking on the Bill Simmons podcast, Jordan said: “It was one of those things that, I didn’t know what was going on. I never was in a character for that long of a period of time and was I guess that dark, that lonely, that painful so coming out of you know I thought, ‘Oh yeah, business as usual, I just go back home, you know, I’ll cut my hair off and, you know, everything will be back to normal’. But I found myself kind of in the routine of being isolated and went out of my way to make sure I was by myself and didn’t say too much, more than usual.”

He added: “Once I got finished wrapping the movie, you know, it took me some time to talk through how I was feeling and why I was feeling so sad and, like, depressed.”

Responding to Simmons’ question over whether he sought professional help, Jordan said: “I talked to a therapist a few times.”

Jordan revealed it took him about a month to shake the effects of playing Killmonger and get to the point where he was spending time with friends and family and being present and engaging with them.

He said the experience led to him talking about things that he didn’t normally talk about.

The 31-year-old added that his role in Black Panther catapulted him into a space that he’s still adjusting to.
