STRONGEST CONTENDER: Miranda Brawn

MIRANDA BRAWN has taken on more responsibility in addition to her current role at the Black Cultural Archives (BCA), based in Brixton south London. Brawn is currently Vice-Chair on the Board of BCA and will continue to support the sustainability of the national organisation.

The newly-named Patron will join the other patrons of the BCA, namely Dame Jocelyn Barrow DBE, Lord Paul Boateng, Sir Willard White OM OBE, Chuka Ummuna MP, Colin Jackson CBE, Benjamin Zephaniah, Marie Garrison, Kwame Kwei-Armah and Idris Elba.

BCA has a strong commitment to promoting diversity and equality and as Vice-Chair Brawn has played a key role in raising awareness about the organisation’s mission. Her influence in driving BCA forward over the last two years have included her brainchild initiatives such as, BCA in the City, sponsored by Fasken Martineau LLP in 2015 and Hogan Lovells in 2016, bridging the gap between the corporate and heritage sector, whilst engaging corporates in conversations to help increase race equality within corporate sector.

Her work has also extended to developing partnerships with the University of Law who hosted the Miranda Brawn Diversity Annual Lecture and Hogan Lovells who were one of the sponsors for the Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Scholarships being offered to future leaders from a black, Asian and minority ethnic background across all sectors of the UK workforce as part of the Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation. BCA played a role in providing access to young people across the country.

She has recently been highly commended in the UK Diversity Legal Award 2016 Diversity Champion category and one of the 100 Most Influential Women in European Finance 2016 where the Financial News newspaper has stated that Miranda is fast becoming the go-to-person for race diversity in the City of London.

During the time in which Brawn served as Vice-Chair, BCA has been recognised for its commitment and work to diversity and equality through various initiatives and has recently been awarded the National Diversity Award for Community Organisation for Race, Faith and Religion 2016. The national Award recognises our dedication to tackling issues in today’s society, and commitment to championing diversity.
