Mourinho disregards Lukaku and Drogba comparisons

GETTING THE MESSAGE: Jose Mourinho (right) gives Romelu Lukaku instructions

CHELSEA MANAGER Jose Mourinho says that Romelu Lukaku is his own man and should not be compared with legendary Ivory Coast player, Didier Drogba.

Lukaku will attempt to make his mark at Chelsea this season and to help do so, he asked former Stamford Bridge star Drogba for advice.

Whilst Lukaku showed that he has what it takes to be Premier League success, evident from the loan at West Bromwich Albion in 2012/13, he is entering a critical moment in his career where he will have to compete with the likes of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba for places at Chelsea.

During the pre-season, Lukaku - dubbed the new Drogba - impressed and scored twice during the club's tour of Asia.
Despite the evident similarities in their playing styles, the Chelsea boss is still cautious of comparing the two strikers. He would rather let the young 20 year-old Belgium international make a name for himself.

"We have to respect Didier, because Didier's unique in Chelsea history," Mourinho said. "And we have to respect Lukaku and the best way to respect Lukaku is not to compare him with a legend of Chelsea Football Club. The kid is good."

Mourinho agrees that Lukaku still has much to learn if he is to fulfill his potential and become a striking legend, but feels that there is a possibility that he could become the main star of Chelsea’s attack.

When asked if Lukaku could start the season as first-choice front man, the Blues boss said: "Of course. It's up to the kid, but he's open and intelligent enough to learn the kind of movement we want.

"We don't want the striker just aiming between the central defenders, but making movements, sometimes between the midfield or moving wide."

"Every manager has his own ideas. Lukaku had a fantastic manager last season in Steve Clarke but Steve is Steve, I am me, and West Brom is not Chelsea."
