BIRMINGHAM’S AIRWAVES will have a new sound from 4 October – with the best of Black musical heritage and the newest in black music reverberating from Mytenradio.

The station will broadcast 24-hours a day until the end of October catering for the city’s youth audience. It is being launched by Punch Records as part of its BASS 15 festival, a month long celebration of black music and art taking place at a number of venues in Birmingham and London.

Punch Records’ chief executive, Ammo Talwar said: “Mytenradio signals a step change in the sound of Birmingham – a city with an untapped youth audience ready for better radio. We are the youngest city in Europe and people here want a station that reflects the diversity and excitement you hear in the streets, studios and clubs. It will be radio made for young people by young people.”

Mytenradio, which can be found across FM platforms, promises to shake up the status quo of broadcasting in Birmingham, with extensive social media and an online reach giving the city a new global platform.

The station is also running a broadcast training programme to give promising youngsters an opportunity to get their voices heard.

Birmingham-based Punch Records is a music development agency and has a 15-year history of delivering ground breaking public programmes. Punch works nationally and internationally, touring and commissioning new work and supporting new artists.
