PLEA: Anthony Boyd, right, denies charges that he robbed Bishop Eddie Long
A FORMER security guard at Bishop Eddie Long's church has pled not guilty to charges that he robbed the pastor last month.
Anthony Boyd has denied any involvement in the break in at Long's office in the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Atlanta and has vowed to "fight these accusations" until his name is cleared.
Boyd's attorney, David Fife, said: "He wants to fight these charges. He wants to fight these accusations because he's forever going to have to explain them every time someone does a Google search on Anthony Boyd.”
It has also been reported that his alleged accomplice, Maurice Robinson, was one of the men who settled a sexual misconduct lawsuit put against Long recently.
Boyd has accused Robinson and another former church member of the robbery, claiming they tried to gather evidence against Long for the sexual misconduct lawsuit.
Boyd claims the men stole an “iPad, iPhone and the jewelry.”
DeKalb County District Attorney, Robert James said: "Based on the facts and the evidence contained in the file and based on the conversations that I’ve had with my staff, the evidence is there to sustain a burglary charge.”
If convicted Boyd will face up to a 20-year prison sentence.
