A BIOPIC about legendary rap group N.W.A will be released in August 2015, founding member Ice Cube has confirmed.
Straight Outta Compton, also the title of the group's debut album, will tell "the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionised music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war," Universal Pictures said.
Dr Dre and Eazy E will be played by newcomers Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, while Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson, Jr, will take on the role of his father.
"Finally found the cast for the N.W.A movie. Me, Gary Gray, Dre w/ Cube, Eazy & Dre #StraightOuttaCompton coming 8/14/15," the Ice Cube tweeted along with a photo of himself, the film's director Gary Gray, Dr Dre and the three leading men.
N.W.A was an American hip-hop group from Compton in Los Angeles and are widely considered as one of the pioneering acts of the gangsta rap and west coast hip-hop sub-genres.
They have been credited as one of the most important groups in the history of rap with tracks like Express Yourself and Gangsta. To date, the group has sold more than 10 million records in the United States.
"I'm totally involved, I'm engulfed in it," Ice Cube told MTV News recently, also revealing the film would be shot in Compton.
"This is our legacy, you can't play with this, there's no cutting corners. I'm fully engulfed in that movie, very anal about it. It gotta be right."
