Oprah opens up about battle with obesity in emotional advert

WEIGHT BATTLES: Oprah Winfrey

BACK IN October American media mogul Oprah Winfrey joined forces with Weight Watchers, paying $43.2m (£27.89m) for a 10 per cent slice of the slimming company.

But Winfrey’s choice to team up with Weight Watchers is about more than just a good business venture.

The mogul has struggled with her weight for quite some time, doing so in the public eye. But she’s trying to drop the pounds again, this time, with the help of the company and her many fans.

She promoted this new weight-loss journey and Weight Watchers as a whole in a new advertisement that debuted over the Christmas weekend.

In the emotional ad, Winfrey shares her personal journey and why she still hasn’t given up, at 61, on being the woman she knows she’s capable of being.

“Inside every overweight woman is a woman she knows she can be," said the star.

"Many times you look in the mirror, and you don’t even recognise your own self because you got lost, buried in the weight that you carry. Nothing you’ve ever been through is wasted. So every time I tried and failed, every time I tried again, every time I tried again, has brought me to this most powerful moment to say, if not now, when?"

She added: "I feel that way, and I know millions of other people feel that way. Are you ready? Let’s do this together.”
