TEXT ROW: Richard Rufus, left, and Paul Elliott
FOOTBALL'S ANTI-RACISM campaigner Paul Elliot is now facing libel action after called a former friend and business partner "n****r" in a text message.
Former Charlton player Richard Rufus has issued High Court proceedings against Elliott.
He is claiming £150,000 in aggravated damages for the harm done to his reputation, because of widespread media reports that he had made public the offending text.
It read: "Ur a stupid n****r, You dog Ur history".
Following the incident, the former Chelsea player resigned from his high-ranking positions at the Football Association and charity Kick It Out, and scuppered his chance of being promoted as the head of the FA’s new inclusion advisory board.
Rufus says he did not show the text to anyone other than his legal representatives and was not the source of newspaper revelations about the fall-out between the two former footballers.
