Police investigate Ameobi racial abuse

TAKING ACTION: Ameobi

NEWCASTLE UNITED and teenage striker Sammy Ameobi have informed the police that the 19-year-old was subjected to racial abuse via Twitter.

A statement on the Toon Army’s official website said:

‘Newcastle United are aware of a racist remark that was directed towards Sammy Ameobi via Twitter on Sunday evening.

'The club and Sammy have reported the matter to the police, who are now dealing with the incident.

'The racist comment is wholly unacceptable. Newcastle United will not tolerate racism of any kind and will take the strongest possible action against those responsible.'

The offending Twitter account has since been deleted.

A spokesperson for Northumbria police said: "The matter was reported to police on Sunday. Police are investigating."

Younger brother to Newcastle’s veteran striker Shola, Sammy came on as a second-half substitute in the Magpies’ 3-1 away win over Stoke last night (October 31).
