TARGET: City captain was allegedly racially abused at the Manchester derby

POLICE ARE investigating claims that footballer Vincent Kompany was racially abused in the Manchester Derby last night.

Up to 76,000 supporters attended the Old Trafford clash between Manchester United and Manchester City, which the visitors won 2-1.

The Greater Manchester Police have said they are looking at CCTV footage following claims that City captain Kompany was racially abused in the players' tunnel after the game had ended.

Post-match footage appears to show a fan shouting abuse at the Belgian defender.

City officials have listened to the Sky Sports audio feed of the alleged incident and are satisfied there is no racial element.

However, the police state that they will work with both clubs and look at the footage themselves.

A police spokesman told the Manchester Evening News: “Greater Manchester Police has not received a complaint about racist abuse directed towards any players following last night's fixture, however we have now been made aware of this footage by the Manchester Evening News.”

"The Force will work with both clubs and review any footage to investigate the incident.

"Racist abuse will not be tolerated by Greater Manchester Police and we will thoroughly investigate this matter. If anyone has any information which could assist us I would ask them the Police at Stretford on 0161 856 7655."
