Pregnant woman 'attacked by ex' in street tried to save baby

ATTACKED: Malorie Bantala

A WOMAN who was attacked by her ex-partner while heavily pregnant, causing her to lose her unborn child, says she did everything to “protect my son”.

Appearing in court today (Dec 3) Malorie Bantala, who was left fighting for her life after the attack in Peckham, south London, took to the stand to tell of how she fought to protect her unborn son from Kevin Wilson, 22, and a 17-year-old assailant.

Batala was ambushed by the men, who were wearing helmets, as she made her way home. She told the jury that she had recognised her ex boyfriend as one of her attackers after making eye contact with him.

She said his mannerisms were familiar and the navy Adidas tracksuit he was dressed in matched one Wilson had worn to meet her in previously. It was then she pleaded with him to stop the viscous attack.

She said: “I screamed out ‘Kevin’ for him to stop but he continued to kick my stomach with harsh kicks.”

In the midst of the brutal attack the expectant mother, who was 32 weeks gone, said she attempted to shield her unborn son.

IN COURT: Bantala's ex-boyfriend, Kevin Wilson

“My instincts led me to put my right hand over my stomach and I broke two fingers from the kicks trying to protect my son.”

The court learned of how the pair had met at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton in 2011 and became a couple.

They separated but rekindled their relationship briefly while holidaying in Ibiza after graduating.

Bantala became pregnant following a failed second attempt at their relationship.

The father-to-be immediately made his objections known, even going to the lengths of booking an appointment for Bantala at an abortion clinic, she said.

Despite Wilson’s objections, Bantala told the courts how she intended to bring up the baby as a single mother.

Both men have pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Bantala and child destruction.

The case continues.
