BLACKFACE OR TOO MUCH MAKEUP? People have been offended by this girl's yearbook photo

A WHITE female high school student in Washington state is under fire for a yearbook photo of herself that some say looks like blackface.

The teen was supposedly hanging out with her friends and playing around with bronzer when she got the idea to take a photo of herself in extremely dark make-up and then caption it with, “Do you think this is my colour?”

School authorities somehow didn’t catch the photo and it made it into the Shorewood High School yearbook and then onto social media, where the backlash began almost immediately.

"It got posted all over Twitter and it sparked a huge, enormous argument," freshman student Andre Stepanov at Shorewood High School told KING 5 News.

Student Case Macklin said the backlash on social media has been brutal. "There have been some pretty mean comments. Some people have actually been telling her to go kill herself," the student said.

"Nah it ain't your color STOP DOING BLACKFACE," wrote a Twitter user.

"This is like poking a bear then crying and getting mad when it bites you," said another person on Twitter.

Neither of the students thought there was any racism intended, though. "I think it just looks like a really, really bad tan, like she went to the tanning salon," said Stepanov.

The female student wrote several tweets saying she was not being racist with her photo, but only making fun of having a really bad tan, courtesy of a tanning salon.

The school has since stopped handing out the yearbooks and have invited students to return the books if they found the alleged blackface photo to be offending, reported Hip-Hop Wired. The school will place a sticker over the girl’s photo.

The school district has said it is investigating how the photo made its way to the yearbook.
