ONES TO WATCH: Sonz of Thunder, who will be on stage at I Love Jamaica Day on July 30

OUR PICK of performers pegged to play at this month's I Love Jamaica Day not only include Grammy-nominee and reggae stalwart Luciano 'Jah Messenjah', The Voice have also lined-up Alton Ellis' (RIP) son Christopher Ellis, hip-hop gospel duo Sonz of Thunder and underground darling Adelaide Mackenzie.

The London-based trio represent just a few artists and DJs who will be live at the north London family day.

CHRISTOPHER ELLIS

Reggae royalty, Christopher Ellis is the youngest son of the late Alton Ellis.

After wowing Stephen Marley with an acapella vocal performance, Christopher found himself at a turning point in his career, recording with Marley and Jah Cure at King Jammy’s studio. The end product of this collaborative session was End of Time, Christopher’s first single.

Since then, he has treated fans to R&B-tinged reggae and has no plans to stop until he leaves his own indelible mark on the industry.

SONZ OF THUNDER

North west Londoners Shane and Dean Brown not only comprise gospel and dancehall fusion as Sonz of Thunder – but they are real-life blood brothers.

Channel AKA (formerly Channel U) has shown the pair some love on-screen, which has been mirrored by thousands of online views of their tracks, which include a cover of Drake’s One Dance, God on the Mind.

Having already broken local and national radio, Sonz of Thunder are preparing to release future hit, London City Anthem.

ADELAIDE MACKENZIE

BRIT School graduate Adelaide Mackenzie is a staple part of the London underground music scene, having put in more than enough work to legitimately be pegged as a singer overdue to burst out on to the mainstream any moment now.

Strong soaring vocals and inspirational lyrics match her pentecostal church roots and her parents’ love of reggae and soul vinyls, which have all provided the backdrop to Mackenzie’s performance prowess.

Lauded by fellow singers as well as fans, including the late Amy Winehouse, Mackenzie promotes live music event Blessed Souls which showcases talent.
