Senator Wehby named chair for JA Diaspora conference 2019

ON POINT: Senator Don Wehby

THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has announced that Senator Don Wehby, group chief executive officer of Grace Kennedy has been named conference chairman for the upcoming 8th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Kingston from June 16-20.

According to Senator Wehby, he is honoured to have been asked to assume this role for this year’s conference. He said: “Following my conversation with minister Johnson Smith, my call to service was reinforced, and I gladly accepted.”

Building pathways for sustainable development will be a major focus of the upcoming 8th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Kingston from June 16-20 2019.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith said: “The conference will examine global trends and events in countries which impact on our Diaspora. We will also explore potential areas of investment and build sustainable partnerships between Jamaica and the Diaspora. It is anticipated that we will create pathways for you, our Diaspora to contribute to Jamaica in a more targeted way.

"The net effect will lead to a collaborative partnership across a wide spectrum at the local and national levels. He added, “it presents yet another opportunity to further cement intra-Diaspora partnerships with the national goals in sight”.

Minister Johnson Smith shared that the conference is themed “Jamaica and the Diaspora: Building Pathways for Sustainable Development” and It is inextricably linked to the country’s National Development Goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
