FOLLOWING HIS show-stopping and inspiring performance on the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, grime star Stormzy made the claim he was the first black British artist to headline the music event.

Whilst Stormy believed his claim to be true at the time, it was infact Skunk Anansie who made history when they headlined Glastonbury in 1999, with Skin becoming the first black British artist to take top billing at the legendary festival.

After the rapper publicly apologised, Skin revealed that there were no hard feelings between her and Stormzy.

She told The Guardian: “I really like Stormzy and I think he does a lot of good.

“I would never tear that guy down and I would never start a beef and take that moment away from him. But I had to stick up for myself.”

“If I’m really honest, I was way more irritated when Beyoncé said she was the first black woman,’ she admitted.

APOLOGY

After realising his mistake, Stormzy corrected his statement and publicly apologised to the 52-year-old rock legend.

“Skin from the band Skunk Anansie was actually the first black artist to headline glasto she done it with her band in 1999 no disrespect intended and MASSIVE salute to you – my apologies,” the 26-year-old said on social media, as well as contacting Skin privately.

“He DM’d me personally and it was a lovely message,” she said. “We had a little conversation.

“The guy has so much class. We’re all proud of the fact he’s a black man, doing the black man things.”
