Slice to become professional boxer

PERSONALITY: Slice

POPULAR BRAWLER Kimbo Slice, who rose to prominence due to his street fights being broadcasted on the internet, is set to make his professional heavyweight boxing debut.

The 37-year-old Bahamian, who resides in Florida, is scheduled to participate in a four round contest against a yet to be named opponent on August 13 at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.

Slice, real name Kevin Ferguson, made his name on video sharing websites such as YouTube for competing in street fights and backyard brawls. In 2008 Slice began a career in mixed martial arts where he has a record of four wins and two losses. During that time Slice also briefly competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

"Even in his (MMA) losses, Kimbo brought a level of excitement that few fighters can generate,” said boxing promoter Gary Shaw.

“He is a genuine personality with unbelievable strength and character and we're excited about his prospects in boxing.

“The minute he steps in the ring, he'll be one of the most recognisable and talked-about fighters in the sport and his fans around the world will once again feel the excitement."
