Song released for return of kidnapped Nigerian girls

CAMPAIGN: Over 200 women and girls have been abducted in Nigeria (PA)

A NEW single has set to be released in support of the international campaign calling for Nigerian militants to return over 200 women and girls kidnapped during its violent struggle against the government.

Michelle John, a backing singer to some of the biggest names in the business, sings on the track Women Of Hope that was produced by Chris Cameron, who has produced for the likes of Leona Lewis and George Michael.

John wrote the lyrics and co-produced the single which was recorded earlier this year in August. About 60 female voices are on the track, which has received support from several radio stations.

Women Of Hope is due for release tomorrow (Oct 25) and will be available on iTunes.

Money raised from sales will primarily go to “rehabilitation projects for the young girls and families in Nigeria who have been affected by the kidnappings in Nigeria earlier this year”, according to the KODA charity, organisers behind the song.

KODA, founded by Yvonne Bruce and Catherine Labinjo is also being launched tomorrow, with its aim to help young women receive education through outreach programmes.

Bruce, who came up with the idea of the song for the missing girls, said: “It is important that the plight of these young women is not forgotten. Each one of us has a responsibility to do what we can to make a difference.”
