Spike Lee casts Chadwick Boseman for new Netflix film

TEAMING UP: Spike Lee and Chadwick Boseman

SPIKE LEE will team up with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman for a new film based on the Vietnam war.

The BlacKkKlansman director will helm Da 5 Bloods - a story based on Vietnam veterans who return to the jungle to find their lost innocence.

The movie will be based on an original screenplay by Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo and is expected to be distributed by Netflix.

Da 5 Bloods would mark Lee’s first directing gig for Netflix as the streaming giant continues to draw high-profile talent and delve deeper into the world of cinema.

Alongside taking on directing duties, Lee will also write the film with Kevin Willmott, and produce it alongside Beatriz Levin & Lloyd Levin, and Jon Kilik.

According to Variety production for the flick will begin in March, after Lee and Boseman wrap up the awards season with the Oscars on February 24.

The 2019 award season has been a success for both Lee and Boseman. The iconic director recently took home Best Adapted Screenplay at the BAFTA’s and landed six Oscar nominations, including one for Best Director and Best Picture.

Boseman has also had a lot to celebrate. Black Panther won Best Ensemble Cast In A Motion Picture at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, and became the first Marvel movie nominated for an Academy Award.
