NO LOVE: Director Spike Lee has slammed Hollywood for its lack of diversity
SPIKE LEE has hit out at Hollywood accusing the 'upper echelons' of television studios of being stuck in the 1950s.
The 54-year-old, who was presenting his latest film at Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, said a lot of work still needed to be done to reflect the diversity of the U.S.
"U.S. Census shows that white Americans will be a minority by 2045, maybe sooner, so it makes good business sense for companies, including entertainment companies, to diversify their workforce," Lee said.
The Do The Right Thing director's comments come after Hollywood film maker George Lucas said it took him 20 years to make his latest movie Red Tails, a film which follows the true story of a group of African American pilots who fought in World War II.
"I showed it to all of them (film studios) and they said, 'No. We don't know how to market a movie like this," Lucas told The Daily Show.
He added: "They don't believe there's any foreign market for it, and that's 60% of their profit."
Despite reported reservations, Red Tails, which stars all-black cast, made it to second place at the box office on its opening weekend bringing in $19 million.
