Spurs’ attitude too good for ‘passive’ Chelsea

CROWING: Cockerels in full flight after a goal against local rivals Chelsea

TOTTENHAM MANAGER Mauricio Pochettino was happy with their impressive 3-1 victory, which ended Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the season in the league.

He said: “I don’t believe that this is our best performance this season though the performance was good. The reality is that the score was 3-1. You cannot talk about what should be. The result is okay. We are so happy and pleased. I don’t think we have to talk too much.

“The players did that on the pitch and they deserve the credit. When we win it looks like the plan was the best from the manager. For me today it was about the attitude.

“The tactics and system were not important because the attitude and the will was fantastic. The three points have put us in a very good position on the table.

“We need to use this as an example for the future. In the next few days we will have this in another final and then Arsenal. With this attitude all is possible.”

Though the Spurs manager applauded the whole team he commented on his South Korean Heung-Min Son - who not only gave outstanding display - but also scored the decisive third goal in the second half.

“He was fantastic like all the team. Sometimes plans work and sometimes they don’t. It was a difficult summer for him. He was here during the last international break training hard. Today he was fresh and I think the break is going to help him for the rest of the season.”

On Dele Alli, who opened the scoring with a header, he said: “It was a fantastic reaction. He showed his talent and the capacity of what he can do.”

Harry Kane got the second goal for the rampant Cockerels.

The Spurs boss added: “Today for many things I am so pleased. We we capable of winning and losing.”

Meanwhile the Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri lamented at the way his team surrendered their unbeaten run this season.

He said: “I knew that we had a lot of problems to solve and you saw that today. I saw a lot of problems today as we played very badly.

“Tactically we have got to work. We have a lot of problems to solve. I hope it is clear to everybody and the players. We have to work in training.

“We only have time to prepare for the next game. The defensive phase today was a disaster. The defensive players pressed badly the defensive line was a disaster.”

“After five minutes of the match it was difficult to use Jorginho as usual. In the first 25 minutes we had big problems to exit our half.

“They are one of the strongest teams in Europe and it was a disaster after 20 minutes. 2-0 was the minimum.

“I have to study the whole 90 minutes and not only one action. Tottenham won very well. Today they were better than us.

“I wanted to change the match with something different. I could have changed all the 11 players with the same result. We were passive throughout the match.”
