Stars gather for this year's St. Kitts Music Festival

THE CARIBBEAN island of St.Kitts is just days away from welcoming the biggest party of the year to its shores.

The St. Kitts Music Festival 2014 will see partygoers from all across the globe flock to the unassuming isle for a taste of some of the hottest names in music – after basking in a tantalising entrée of beautiful weather and idyllic beaches, of course!

Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland and The Voice USA winner Tessanne Chin are among the acts ready to set the stage alight at this year’s event.

Jamaican-born Tessanne recently made history when she became the first West Indian to win the popular TV talent show and giving it record-breaking ratings and has since gone on to land a coveted record deal with Universal Music Group.

BRINGING THE CARIBBEAN FLAVOUR: The Voice USA winner Tessanne Chin

While singer Kelly Rowland looks set to get feet moving to some Destiny’s Child classics as well as her chart-topping solo material.

Reggae lovers will be treated to the sounds of Freddie McGregor, Capleton and dancehall stars Beenie Man and Chronixx.

“I expect that Beenie Man will do what he has done every time he has performed in St. Kitts in the past – electrify the crowd and make an indelible mark on the event,” St. Kitts Minister of Tourism & International Transport Senator (and one of the star’s biggest local fans), Ricky Skerritt said.

"Chronixx is a very exciting artist to watch on stage with international appeal and his performance will enhance the diversity and variety of talent that the St. Kitts Music Festival has become renowned for in the Caribbean," added Faron Lawrence, chairman of the executive committee of the festival.

YOUTH APPEAL: Chronixx

“He’s a legend in the making, will put on a spectacular performance, and will capture the more youthful and energetic atmosphere at the Festival."

Trinidadian soca star Machel Montana will climax a magnificent night of soca and calypso music on the first night of the three-day extravaganza, which takes places on Thursday, June 26 to Saturday June 28, 2014.

Themed as the ‘Jump Up’ night, Thursday night will also feature Barbados export Destra, Explainer, Skinny Fabulous and Elvis Crespo.

Skerritt described the Thursday lineup as extraordinary and one that would leave “an indelible mark on the event.”

“Machel and Destra are no strangers to the St. Kitts Music Festival, and it is not by accident that we keep inviting them back,” he said.

FESTIVAL VETERAN: Machel Montano

Legendary calypsonian, Explainer, is known for his hits Lorraine, Not Me and The Monarchy and Heroes, while Skinny Fabulous is an unmistakably energetic soca artist from St. Vincent & the Grenadines, known for Summer Body, Badder Than Everybody and a collaboration with Machel Montano, Fetting On.

St. Kitts Music Festival features a wide range of musical styles on the popular market, including R&B, jazz, hip-hop, reggae, soca, calypso, gospel and contemporary music.

Past artists have included such prominent acts as John Legend, Lionel Richie, T-Pain, Michael Bolton, K.C. and the Sunshine Band.

Once the festivities come to an end and dancing shoes are retired for another year, there’s an added treat for sports lovers when St. Kitts’ Warner Park Stadium hosts the final, semi-finals and six group-phase matches of the second 2014 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), described as the “new Twenty20 cricket Tournament”.

The 8,000 capacity ground is set to welcome the CPL for the very first time, giving visitors and Kittitians the chance to experience the thrill of the competition first-hand. The authorities promise, it will be the “biggest party” on the planet and best way to round-up a fun-filled week on the island.

WHERE IT WILL ALL TAKE PLACE: St. Kitts

The Caribbean Premier League is a new Twenty20 cricket Tournament, held annually in the Caribbean and played by some of the world's leading T20 cricketers. Created in 2013, it replaces the previous Caribbean Twenty20, as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean.

The tournament consists of six franchise teams, who play each other twice in a group stage, then play each other twice at the home venues of both teams.

The top three teams will then move onto the Playoff Stage, which will include two matches, the eliminator and the final. The eliminator is played between the second and third placed teams, and the final is played between the top-ranked team from the Group Stage, and the winner of the eliminator.
