Stephen Lawrence murder trial begins

STABBED: Stephen Lawrence was stabbed to death in 1993

TWO MEN will appear at the Old Bailey today (Nov 14) charged with the murder of Stephen Lawrence 18 years ago.

Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, both of south London, deny stabbing the 18-year-old A-level student to death in a racist attack in Eltham, south-east London, on 22 April 1993.

The killing of the teenager at a bus stop prompted a public inquiry into the way the Metropolitan Police deal with racist crime.

A jury is due to be picked later on today, although the case will not open until later this week, it has been reported.

The trial, before Mr Justice Treacy, is expected to last at least two months.

On October 1 Paul Peter, 33, was caught on CTTV throwing a glass bottle at the memorial plaque for the teenager and will be appearing at Bexley Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Nov 15).
