Strippers cause a stir at this South African prison

OFFICIALS WORKING for a South African correctional facility arranged for a troupe of strippers to come and see inmates at Sun City prison last Wednesday, during their annual Youth Month programme of events.

Acting National Correctional Services Commissioner James Smalberger did not seem impressed with the fact that the visit took place and told reporters that he was investigating the incident. Thirteen prison officers face disciplinary action and, Smalberger says, will be hit with the "full might of our code of conduct"; whilst some deny knowledge of the type of women that were being invited in.

A spokesman representing the prison, Ofentse Morwane, told TimesLive:

"When the dancers arrived‚ we saw that they were wearing lingerie. They had some sort of strip show for the offenders."

Smalberger told journalists at a local press conference that no South African taxpayers' money had been used to fund the strippers.

"It is not acceptable for female persons to appear like that in front of offenders," he said.

"The management of the event should have never allowed, and immediately halted, this type of explicit entertainment, as pronounced by our policies.

"Therefore, there was a clear breach of the security plan that was provided for the event as well as other relevant policies and procedures."
