Suspect in custody after death of British couple in Jamaica

MURDERED: Charlie and Gayle Anderson

A MAN has been taken into custody after British retirees Charlie and Gayle Anderson were found dead in their Jamaica home.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force announced that the man taken into custody was "picked up" in Kingston, the islands capital and is being treated as a "person of interest".

In a statement released on Twitter, the force said: “The Police High Command has expressed regret at the recent killing of a retired couple in Portland and is giving their commitment that the top level investigation will continue with alacrity and the highest level of professionalism.

They are further stating that one man has been taken into custody as the detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch Headquarters (CIB HQ) and the Maj Invest Division intensify the investigation into the death of the retired couple at their home in Portland on the weekend.”

“The man, who is considered a person of interest in the matter, was picked up on Saturday afternoon at a business establishment in Kingston."

Police Superintendent Duane Wellington told reporters that two men who were persons of interest had been arrested in connection with allegations of fraud.

Just days before they were killed the Andersons reported that £45,000 had been fraudulently charged to their credit cards.

Wellington told a press conference: “This is a case where fraud has been committed. Two males, who are persons of interest, are now in police custody and will be questioned as we continue to carry out investigations.

We are also appealing to persons locally and overseas, if they have any information, to disclose same to the police as we seek to bring an early closure to this murder [investigation].”
