DEATH: Erick Maina

RACIST GRAFFITI targeting a black boy who was found dead in Liverpool has resulted in police charging two teenagers.

White supremacist markings, including Ku Klux Klan insignia, appeared at the school of Erick Maina, 15, only hours after his death, which has not yet been publicly explained.

The offensive graffiti at Maricourt Catholic High School in Maghull following the discovery of the pupil’s body in Fazakerley.

Local media reports say Nazi symbols and the N-word were scribbled at the school and a nearby park.

Police charged an 18-year-old male from Netherton and a 17-year-old from Bootle. They will appear at Sefton magistrates accused of racially aggravated criminal damage.

Officers are still investigating the death of Erick, who was described by his head teacher Brendan McLoughlin as “a popular ad well-liked pupil”.

He said: “represented his peers as form captain and was a member of the school council.

“He was a bright and intelligent young man, always polite and co-operative.

“On Saturday, after hearing the tragic news of his death, hundreds of pupils and staff came to lay flowers and to leave a message in a book of condolences.”

The head teacher added: “Our prayers and thoughts go to Erick’s family to whom we send our deepest sympathy.

“On Sunday morning I was made aware of offensive graffiti on the school premises.

“While this is extremely upsetting, this matter is now the subject of a police investigation so it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

It is understood the schoolboy’s death is not being treated as suspicious, while the teenager, originally from Nairobi, Kenya, posted “bye” on his Facebook account before he was found dead at a house.
