Top UK based Nigerian achievers honoured

AWESOME FOURSOME: Tolu, Toks, Temi and Tobi Ogunsanya.

HIGH ACHIEVING Nigerians living in the UK have been honoured for their achievements in their chosen fields by a local association.

Among those to be acknowledged by the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK) were quadruplets Toks, Temi, Tobi and Tolu Ogunsanya, who made headlines for their academic prowess.

The 23-year-old quadruplets graduated from Warwick University with Masters Degrees, on the same day.

Toks graduated with a Masters of Engineering in manufacturing and engineering while Temi, Tobi and Tolu gained management Masters from Warwick Business School.

Currently, the four of them are working for high profile companies such as Santander and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

“It was an honour to have been invited to the event yet alone to be celebrated for our achievements. I think that in the midst of what have been negative images of Nigeria in the media with the terrorist attacks and protests during the oil subsidy, it was refreshing to see the positive actions of many of our fellow Nigerians”, said Tobi Ogunsanya, who is now working as a management consultant. "Completing my Masters was just the pinnacle in what has been a hard but rewarding journey in education and I hope to build on this as I begin my career."

Another top Nigerian honoured was Pastor Agu Irukwu of Redeemed Christian Church of God Jesus House. He was recently named Britain's most inspirational black person in a poll conducted by the Metro newspaper and Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Chairman of CANUK, Bimbo Roberts Folayan, told The Voice: “We put on this event to celebrate those who are adding value to UK society as well as giving Nigeria a good name. Nigerians often have a bad name in mainstream media, so that is why we want to highlight those who do well and encourage others to strive to do better."

Notable Nigerians such as the High Commissioner His Excellency Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida and all-round entertainer Patti Boulaye were just a few of many who came to celebrate their countrymen.

Boulay said: "It was so worthwhile and people were well celebrated."

The event was also a convenient gathering to wish the current Nigerian Ambassador His Excellency Dozie Nwanna a farewell as he ends his final term in his position later this year.

CANUK is the umbrella organisation of 120 Nigeria-related groups in the UK boasting of 40,000 members.
