CELEBRATIONS: Trench Town gets ready to party

RESIDENTS OF Trench Town, Jamaica are getting ready to celebrate their 11th Annual Community Festival, which will run from February 3-6.

According to the organisers, this year's festival promises to be bigger and better, as it will be commemorating the birthday of reggae icon Robert 'Bob' Marley.

In addition, the festival will celebrate 50 years of reggae music and Jamaica's 50th anniversary of Independence.

Long-time resident and administrator of the Trench Town Peace & Justice Centre, Sonia Whyte, says the community sees the festival as a means of honouring the work of Marley and the place that inspired him.

She says the residents want to preserve the Culture Yard and make it into one of the best community-based tourism products in Jamaica.

According to Whyte, "The festival aims to bring exposure to the community and promote unity among the residents."
