Trump targets ‘The Squad’ in another Twitter rant

AT IT: President Donald Trump

PRESIDENT DONALD Trump has once again made a racial attack against the four democratic congresswomen, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley.

Last week, Trump demanded the four congresswomen “go back” to where the came from before critiquing the US. Despite the global condemnation of Trump’s statements, he has continued to defend his comments.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday morning, (Jul 21) Trump said: “I don’t believe the four Congresswomen are capable of loving our Country. They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said. They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!

As Trump continues to spew racial slurs, the four congresswomen, colloquially known as “the squad”, have received an onslaught of racial abuse across social media. Many twitter users have used this opportunity to not only praise and support Trump’s leadership, but also to articulate their desire for such a leader in the UK.

UK based Twitter account Trump Nation tweeted last Thursday (Jul 18): “How I wish we had such leadership in the #UK “Don’t like this country? Don’t like what it gives you? Then leave” #Trump does not give offence. #TheSquad choose to take it. #TheSquad need to make better decisions.”

The GOP has also defended Trump’s racist attack on the women. At a news conference last Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said: "The President's not a racist”. He added "We've seen the far-left throw accusations of racism at everyone, anyone who disagrees with them on anything, including the speaker of the House”

Amid racist comments Ms Ihlan Omar, alongside the three other congresswomen, have remained strong and committed to fighting. At a Minnesota rally, she spoke out saying: “The reality is Trump is threatened because we are inspiring people to dream about a country that recognises their dignity and humanity”.
