CONTROVERSY: Winston McKenzie
A SPOKESPERSON for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) has said same-sex couples shouldn’t be allowed to adopt children because it amounts to “child abuse”, say reports.
The party’s culture spokesperson Winston McKenzie, who is a candidate in tomorrows Croydon North by-election, allegedly said that children given to gay couples have “no opportunity to grow up under normal circumstances”, after citing that it is a “violation of a child’s human rights”.
McKenzie told The Metro: “To say to a child, ‘I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don’t worry about it’ – that is abuse.”
The former boxer’s controversial comments have led to backlash against the 59-year-old, with many taking to Twitter to vent their anger.
One commentator wrote: “@WinstonMcK you are a disgrace, just letting you know.”
“Do you realise how much of a moron you look being a minority n yet discriminating against another?!... Embarrassment!...”, another added.
One Twitter user concluded: “Winston McKenzie, what a foolish thing to say, wrong and just ridiculous. You really should know better, for all the obvious reasons."
