A NEW restaurant opening in the West Midlands plans to serve up dishes from all over the Caribbean.

White Sands is opening in Sutton Coldfield on September 25, with plans for a flagship base in Birmingham city centre too.

It claims to be the first restaurant in the world to offer truly Pan-Caribbean food - meaning they will give diners a choice of food from all the 28 island nations in the Caribbean, the Birmingham Mail reported.

The Sutton Coldfield restaurant is to be the first in a chain of White Sands across the Midlands, with more planned at Touchwood in Solihull and Leamington Spa.

It’s the brainchild of Lloyd Waldron, who is investing £500,000 along with his partner Jermaine Jarratt into the Sutton and Birmingham sites.

He said: “There is nothing else like this in the UK or even the world and we’re sure it’s going to be a major success.

“We already have our eye on a prime site in the city centre which we hope to open early next year."

He continued: “A typical Caribbean restaurant will just serve Jamaican food, and then often not very authentically.

“There are lots more islands in the Caribbean, each serving very different food. Cuba is very different from St Kitts, for example."

Waldron added: “Every island has its own way of doing things and it’s all down to the seasoning. The jerk chicken in Jamaica is not the same as that in the Bahamas – Jamaican seasoning is spicy and dry whereas the Bahamas is more tangy.

“What we’re doing is fine dining, which not many Caribbean restaurants do. But it’s not small portions, people will get a decent meal."
