TOP SCORER: Suarez is leading the scoring charts while Liverpool lead the league (PA)

LUIS SUAREZ should be crowned the Premier League player of the season, according to the majority of Voice readers who voted in an online poll.

Almost half of those who took part in the survey decided that the Liverpool forward, who has been in scintillating form in front of goal, deserves the accolade dished out at the campaign’s end.

The Uruguayan international has helped propel the Reds to title contenders as they lead the league by two points over Chelsea, and 46 per cent of readers believed his efforts ought to see him handed the individual prize.

To date, he has netted an incredible 29 goals in the league alone and has seemingly put his bad-boy behaviour behind him, with previous incidents of calling Patrice Evra "negrito" and biting Branislav Ivanovic on the arm tainting his reputation.

Significantly behind Suarez, in second place was Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, who has been a powerhouse for the Sky Blues as they seek to reclaim the title after winning it in 2012.

The 30-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder received 31 per cent of the vote.

Getting nearly half the votes of Toure was Daniel Sturridge, who came in third place with 16 per cent of readers giving him the nod.

The England striker, who is Suarez’s front-line partner at Liverpool, has also been in sensational goalscoring form and it is his lethal partnership with Suarez that has transformed the Reds’ season into one of real promise.

Coming in a distant last was Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, whom only seven per cent of readers picked for the gong.

Nonetheless, the Belgium wing wizard has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for the Blues, and his goals and assists have been crucial to the west London club as they chase the Premier League and Champions League, having booked their final-four place in Europe’s elite competition last night (Apr 8) over Paris St Germain.

Whoever does end up claiming player of the year award will know they have beaten some truly talented ballers to the prestigious prize.
