We can’t let the riots destroy our faith’

HOPE: Pastor Nims Obunge

A VIGIL of hope was held in Tottenham on Monday (Aug 8) to help unite the community and repair its broken spirit.

Reverend Nims Obunge OBE, of the Haringey Peace Alliance, said: “I have spent time with families who have lost everything. Mothers who had to flee their homes with their babies in oxygen masks.

There is now a fear of violence that wasn’t here before. We absolutely cannot let what happened on Saturday allow us to lose hope that Tottenham can rebuild. We have to keep the faith. That’s what this vigil is about.”

He added “The community needs to heal. Mark Duggan’s family needs to feel that they get the truth whatever that may be. Most of all, we are appealing to our young people to stop the violence. We have to rebuild our community and, whatever has happened, we have to make sure they are a part of it.”
