Whitney Houston documentary set to premiere in April

LEGEND: Whitney Houston

A NEW Whitney Houston documentary is coming to viewers next month, and will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.

Whitney: Can I Be Me is a documentary by filmmaker Nick Broomfield, who is best known for his film “Kurt & Courtney,” about the relationship between Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.

The film will explore Houston's rise and fall during her lengthy career, and features 'never-before-seen footage.'

While a spokesperson for Houston's family told Rolling Stone they are not involved in Broomfield's documentary, the family did give its blessing to another Whitney-related project from Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald.

In May 2016, Broomfield revealed some of his plans for the documentary, and mentioned that he didn't have much interest in speaking with Bobby Brown about his late ex's life.

“Brown and Whitney were in a kind of dance,” Broomfield told Indiewire. “They were completely destructive because they were in a weird competition. I’ve never heard Bobby Brown even vaguely talk eloquently about that. I also don’t want to spend that kind of money on him.”

Whitney: Can I Be Me will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival as part of the Spotlight Documentary Lineup, and will be available on US network, Showtime later this year.
