TALKING POINT: The turbulent match has been a hot topic

NAOMI OSAKA has shared more details about her historic grand slam win at the US Open in an interview with Ellen Degeneres.

Osaka, the first grand slam winner for Japan, shared with Degeneres and the Ellen Show audience what Williams whispered in her ear at the end of the match.

“[She said[ that she was proud of me and that I should know that the crowd wasn’t booing at me,” Osaka said.

Osaka said that she was “really happy” that Williams said that.

The 20-year-old added: “At the time, I did ... think that they were booing at me. I couldn’t tell what was going on, because it was just so loud in there. It was a little bit stressful.”

Osaka also gave details of what was going through her mind when the interaction between Williams and the umpire was taking place.

“When you’re little, you’re taught not to look at like if your opponent gets angry or anything. You’re told to...turn around and try to focus. So I tried to do that. But in my mind, I was sort of, like I really wanted to know what was going on.”

The young tennis star also opened up about her celebrity crush – Michael B Jordan.

She nervously shook her head and smiled when Degeneres offered to text Jordan on Osaka’s behalf.

The Black Panther star recorded a special video message congratulating her on her win after her appearance on The Ellen Show.

He said: “I just wanted to say congratulations. Ellen hit me up and told me she was having you on the show so I wanted to send my love and support and just say congratulations. It’s a big moment for you. And the way you carry yourself with such humility and grace, it’s really amazing to see.”
