WINNERS AT the 13th Wise Women Awards (WWA) included 80-year-old missionary Kathleen Lucas who served in Rwanda for over 40 years, Ghanian gospel singer Diana Hamilton, advocate for those suffering domestic violence Fikelephi Jackson and Zina Arinze.

Hosted by comedienne Angie Le Mar, the WWA always aims to honour and celebrate Christian women making an impact in the church and society.

A total of 16 women were honoured on the night and Pastor Shola Irukwu, wife of the head of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, won the WWA Inspirational Women of the Year award for helping to raise £50,000 to fund the training of midwives in sub-Saharan Africa after doing a sponsored climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Special guests at this year’s event included Baroness Elizabeth Berridge, Paulette Simpson, director at The Voice and Muyiwa, head of Premier Gospel.

Co-organiser Pastor Marjorie Esomowei said:

“I always get a great feeling at the Wise Women Awards.

“It never fails to achieve its aims, which is to focus attention on women doing great things in the church and society.

“The women honoured this year were all doing what they do to positively transform the lives of others. I’m looking forward to planning WWA 2018 and once again honouring women doing great things.”
