STAYING STRONG: Brenda's social media post

Edwards’ son, music mogul Jamal Edwards MBE took to his Instagram page shortly after his mother’s announcement to tell concerned followers “it is all about the positive energies and staying strong for my mum”.

The 25-year-old, who this week made the inaugural Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list of inspirational young leaders, wrote: “These past few days have been a bit mad to say the least. The real meaning of ups & downs in that thing you call life.

“I’m not even trying to focus on it as negative because this is just one of the many tests life happens to send your way & it’s all about how we deal with it.

“I don’t really know how to put what’s on my mind in a caption if I’m honest, but all I do know is that it’s all about the positive energies & staying strong for mum… All thoughts and prayers are appreciated beyond any words I can think of… Thank you.”

He ended his post with his mantra #SelfBelief.

Edwards rose to prominence when she entered The X factor in 2005.

The 42-year-old was the last woman standing in the semi finals and left the audience and judges spellbound week after week, this journey took her on a 27 date X Factor UK arena tour.

“Faith is the cure that heals all troubles. Without faith there is no hope or love. Faith comes first #pma (positive mental attitude),” she wrote hours before her shocking announcement.
