Young authors spotlight black heroes

CLEVER KIDS: Romeo Bremmer and Brianna-Kayla Lynch

TWO CHILDREN have written books to tell their friends and peers about the black heroes and heroines of past and present.

The authors are Romeo Bremmer – son of Juliet Bremmer, presenter of legendary 1990s gospel show People Get Ready – and Brianna-Kayla Lynch, the grand-daughter of gospel legend Bazil Meade.

Their books are entitled Hey, Black Boy! and Hey, Black Girl!, respectively.

Black heroes featured in the boys book include Grime artist Stormzy, Olympic 100m champion Usain Bolt and civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

The list of decorated females in BriannaKayla’s book include America’s former first lady Michelle Obama, Britain’s first black female MP Diane Abbott, comedienne Angie Le Mar and the late RnB singer Aretha Franklin. Juliet Bremmer, an award-winning senior deputy headteacher of a secondary school worked alongside her son Bailey to publish both titles.

She said: “It’s important to teach young people about their history and inspire them to develop pride in themselves and their community.

“By featuring black achievers, these books do that as well as encouraging readers to see themselves as individuals who can achieve great things.” For further information about the books visit blackjacmedia.com.
