Young racer needs cash injection

WINNER: Lewis Appiagyei

LEWIS APPIAGYEI from Camden has picked up his latest karting honour over the weekend at Buckmore Park as vice champion of their Winter series.

His success in this series will go towards his Sodi World series ranking. Last year he represented the UK as its highest ranked Junior competitor in the world finals. The world title was taken by his UK team mate also from Buckmore Park.
Buckmore Park have produced four world champions in recent years and Lewis, who cites Formula One world champion as one of his heroes, hopes to add his name to that list as well over the coming years.

Young Lewis, a student at St Mary Magdalene Academy, Islington is due to race in the Formula 24 electric kart series with his school, however Lewis and his fellow students have not yet found sponsors to support them with their enrichment project.

The 8 students from different year groups are building their own kart from a kit which they will race against other schools in April at the famous Goodwood circuit.

The talented racers urgently need some financial help to give their kart the edge. What they need specifically are special parts and a body which will help them clinch the title for their school, for Islington and for London.

Originally the group were hoping to enter their kart into the prestigious Formula E schools’ race which made its debut in London last year when the series came to Battersea Park for the first time.

In spite of Lewis trying his best to convince them otherwise, Formula E has decided not to continue with the school’s race, but instead have adults and even artificial intelligence races running alongside their famous racing drivers.

To overcome this disappointment, a winning kart in the Formula 24 series would mean a lot to the youngsters from St Mary Magdalene Academy.

If you are in any way able to assist them, please contact the school (firstcontact@smmacademy.org; 020 7697 0123) Any amount, no matter how small with help the children in their goal to become Formula 24 winners. Sponsors will have their names/company logos displayed on the body of the kart.
