LSE hosts conference for African Caribbean heritage students

BLACK ACHIEVEMENT CONFERENCE: The 12th annual event returns this October

ON SATURDAY October 26 2019, The London School of Economics will host its 12th annual Black Achievement Conference. Held as part of national Black History Month, the Conference is a free one-day event for African-Caribbean students who attend a non- selective London (or area commutable to London) state school or college in years 10-13 and their parents/carers.

Hosted by LSE alumni, Ola the Comedian, the conference includes a line-up of high profile engaging speakers and role models from across the African Caribbean community. The day is run by LSE’s Widening Participation Team and is designed to help students and their families to plan for their future. We provide a taste of higher education and focus on inspiring participants to aim higher, think bigger, realise their potential and make informed decisions about what to do with their futures.

The programme includes: motivational sessions; a university advice session by an LSE admissions specialist, opportunities to connect with students from LSE’s African Caribbean Society, and an exhibition showcasing different extracurricular opportunities available for students in London.

Interested in attending? Eligibility criteria and application form can be found online here. Deadline: Thursday September 26 2019 11.59pm.

The Black Achievement Conference is just one of the many projects run by LSE’s Widening Participation Team aimed at removing barriers to accessing higher education study. Each year the team works with over 2,400 young people most attending London state schools and colleges, targeting participants from those groups under-represented within higher education.
