WELL DONE: Pupil Kai Louis Sexcius Bishop, who gained an '8' in English Language and nine 'A*-C's altogether

STOKE NEWINGTON School (SNS), a local community comprehensive school, has had very strong GCSE results this year with the number of students getting five A* to C (or equivalent) grades at 71%.

The new syllabus and grading systems for English and Maths have largely been taken in their stride by the SNS students.

On average well over 75% of SNS students achieved grades 4 to 9 in the core subjects. There were 39 new top level 9 grades in English or Mathematics – with four students gaining a 9 in both English and Mathematics.

The school’s creative subjects continue to excel with outstanding results in Art, Drama, Media Photography and Textiles. 37% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate – well above the 24% national figure from last year. English Baccalaureate subjects performed very strongly with Science, History, Spanish, French and Latin gaining As and A*s at significantly above the national rate.

“We are very proud of our year 11 students – every one of them. We know that they are ambitious for their achievements; they worked hard and have been well taught and supported by our teachers. We continue to have excellent results in our creative subjects, as well as students achieving well in the fundamentals of Maths and English. We are really pleased with their success.”

The GCSE results follow hard on the heels of outstanding A-Level achievements for the sixth year running. Stoke Newington’s sixth form is again expected to be deemed “outstanding”.
