WORLD FOOTBALL governing body FIFA has decided to not take any further action against a Croatian club after Manchester City claimed one of its Under-21 players suffered racist abuse during a pre-season friendly game.
The alleged abuse was directed at Seko Fofana, 19, whose complaints of racism at the July friendly against HNK Rijeka led to City coach Patrick Vieira withdrawing his players from the field.
Explaining why no measures would be taken against the Croatian side, FIFA said: “There were not enough elements to justify the opening of disciplinary proceedings.
Frenchman Fofana was sent off in the game because of an off-the-ball incident before he alleged he was the target of racist abuse – claims which Rijeka dismissed as “baseless”.
FIFA added: “The chairman of the Fifa disciplinary committee was pleased to observe that Davor Suker, the Croatian Football Federation president, and Patrick Vieira engaged positively to work through the issue”.
Fofana, who has not yet made an appearance for the City first team, is currently on loan at Championship club Fulham.
