A MAN has been charged with the murder of missing student Joy Morgan.
Morgan, a midwifery student at the University of Hertfordshire, was last seen in Ilford on Boxing Day last year.
She was reported missing to police on Thursday, February 7.
Shohfah-El Israel, 40, has been charged with the murder of the missing 21-year-old after being re-arrested by Hertfordshire Police on Tuesday, February 26.
Police initially reported the suspect’s name as Ajibola Shogbamimu but the court said he changed his name by deed poll, the BBC reported.
He has been remanded in custody.
Morgan, who was living in Hatfield, has links to Ilford, Battersea, Cricklewood, Stevenage and Luton.
Although she had been missing for six weeks, no one from Morgan’s church, Israel United in Christ, where she was last seen, had reported her missing to the authorities or to Morgan’s mum, Channel 4 News reported.
Her mum, Carol, discovered she had disappeared after she received a call from her daughter’s estate agents saying that she had not paid her rent.
Carol has made a direct appeal to the church members asking them to tell her where her daughter is.
In a statement, Israel United in Christ (IUIC), said that it had been praying for Morgan’s wellbeing and safe return.
“IUIC has no knowledge or information related to the whereabouts of Joy Morgan, IUIC’s policy is that any person who is accused of and/or charged with a criminal offence is no longer a member of IUIC,” it said.
